How to compare EPOS systems

Comparison guides that put systems side by side on what matters at the counter: speed, what is included, what it costs over three years, and what happens when the internet drops.

Short answer

Compare EPOS systems on five things: total three-year cost including card fees, whether orders from the counter, phone, website, kiosk and delivery platforms land in one kitchen queue, whether it keeps trading offline, what the contract commits you to, and how fast it is at your real peak. Feature lists matter less than those five. The guides below compare system types and named providers on exactly that basis.

Compare — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between POS and EPOS?

POS is point of sale, the place and the act of taking payment. EPOS is electronic point of sale: the till system that records the sale, prints to the kitchen, reports and takes card payments. In the UK the two terms are used interchangeably for the same till.

Is a cloud EPOS better than a traditional till?

For most hospitality sites, yes: menus and reports live in the cloud so you can change prices from anywhere, and a good cloud EPOS keeps a local copy of everything so it still trades offline. A traditional till is simpler but stops being updated and keeps its data on one machine.

How do I compare EPOS quotes fairly?

Put every quote on the same basis: hardware one-off, software per month, card processing on your real average transaction, kitchen screens, online ordering, delivery integration and support, over three years. The cheapest headline price is rarely the cheapest total.
